A woman, bear and birds come together within a richly layered, abstracted landscape. The bear’s scale gives it a strong, protective presence, while the smaller birds introduce movement and delicacy against its weight and stillness.
This painting grew from an interest in the contrast between strength and vulnerability, and the different ways those qualities appear in both people and animals. The boundaries between the figures and their surroundings are deliberately softened, allowing human, animal and landscape to feel part of the same environment.
